A bold new chapter is unfolding for the Grade II listed Plymouth Civic Centre as the iconic 1962 tower undergoes a landmark transformation led by Plymouth City Council and funded by Homes England. Our team is playing a key role in reimagining this celebrated modernist structure, which is set to become a vibrant mix of new residential apartments, a refreshed City College Plymouth campus, and a reinstated rooftop pavilion featuring a public café with sweeping views across the city.

We have been appointed to deliver Stage 3 and 4 consultancy services, including façade concept design, thermal and structural assessments, façade performance specification, Gateway 2 submission support, and façade access consultancy. Close collaboration with BDP Architects and the wider design team has been crucial in overcoming the technical and heritage challenges associated with retaining the building’s distinctive concrete frame, waffle slabs and precast façade panels.

Our involvement also includes continuing to support the team in developing the holistic façade access strategy, primarily surrounding the replacement of the existing Building Maintenance Unit. With Stage 4 now well underway, the project is progressing steadily toward construction and moving closer to bringing this significant civic landmark back to life.
