Some engineering projects quietly become part of history.
The Bayeux Tapestry has returned to the UK for the first time in nearly 1,000 years. Behind that moment is an extraordinary level of conservation, planning and technical expertise.
Our Building Services Engineering team provided the full mechanical and electrical building services design for the British Museum’s Archaeological Research Collection, a 15,500m² specialist facility delivered for client LJJ, alongside architects John McAslan + Partners.
Featured in the BBC documentary Secrets of the Bayeux Tapestry: Inside the Museum, the facility became the setting for meticulous rehearsals by expert teams from the UK and France, refining every step of the tapestry’s safe handling and transport.
It’s a reminder that the best building services engineering is rarely seen. It creates the environments that protect heritage, enable research and preserve collections of global importance for generations to come.
