This 15,500m² state-of-the-art facility is located adjacent to the University of Reading’s Thames Valley Science Park in Shinfield, Berkshire. The facility provides space to study, share and conserve objects and works of art from the internationally renowned British Museum’s research collection, specifically sculptures, mosaics and historic casts. The development is an active and integral part of the British Museum, with a strong focus on global research.

The single-storey building consists of three connected blocks and in addition to storage provides specialist facilities for artefact conservation. The facility incorporates study rooms which provide university students, academics, school groups and members of the public with enhanced access to the collection. In addition a dedicated hub facilitates loans from the Museum’s research collection directly to local, national and international venues.

We are proud to share that our Building Services Engineering team provided the full mechanical and electrical building services design for the British Museum’s Archaeological Research Collection, a 15,500m² specialist facility delivered for client LJJ, alongside architects John McAslan + Partners.
