Wintech continues the collaboration with Imperial College London to support third-year MEng Civil Engineering students as part of their Group Design Project, offering a real-world consultancy experience focused on building performance, energy efficiency and future proofing strategies for the existing building stock.

The project centred on our St Albans offices, owned and managed by Borras Construction, and challenged the student teams to act as engineering consultants. Their objective: to carry out a detailed assessment of the building’s energy performance and develop a pathway for incremental improvements to improve EPC ratings and achieve Net Zero Carbon (Operational).

Over an intensive five-week period, students conducted site visits, analysed performance data, evaluated energy efficiency enhancement strategies, and delivered weekly progress presentations to a review panel comprising professionals from Wintech, Borras Construction, and Imperial’s academic staff.

Mark Lennard, Director at Borras Construction, commented:

“We will absorb the students’ report contents and recommendations. I’m confident we’ll be using the report as a roadmap to upgrade our asset. Many thanks to all those involved at both Wintech and Imperial – this has been a valuable and insightful exercise.”

As an added highlight, Peter Kerrison, Consultant at Wintech’s St Albans office and a proud Imperial alumnus, welcomed the students and joined Project Lead Clyde Abela at the final presentation.

A big thank you to all the students and partners involved.
