The best project conversations often happen away from the drawing board.
Despite one of the hottest days of the year, our London and Scotland teams recently came together at the Olympia Redevelopment designed by Heatherwick Studio, taking time away from a particularly busy period across the business to experience the completed development.
Having supported Laing O’Rourke through RIBA Stages 4 and 5, the visit was an opportunity to step back from delivery and reflect on the design, engineering, and detailing that have shaped this ambitious scheme.
After more than five years working on the project, it was particularly rewarding to walk through Olympia together and revisit the thinking behind the work: why a detail evolved in a particular way, how materials were selected, and the engineering considerations that influenced the final outcome.
These are the conversations that matter. They challenge our thinking and help technical knowledge move across our disciplines – giving time and space for our people to learn from each other and take pride in the work they help deliver.
And of course, after exploring Olympia in the summer heat, the refreshments beneath the iconic new canopy were very welcome.
