It was great to be in Edinburgh for the the Institution of Fire Engineers Graduate Lecture, bringing together the next generation of fire engineering talent. Held at the University of Edinburgh, the event was an excellent forum for insight, discussion and networking for graduates and early-career professionals across the fire engineering community. Wintech supported the event alongside OFR Consultants and Arup and was represented by James Lane (IFE International President and Wintech Director of Fire Engineering), Commercial Engineer Pablo Ochoa and Senior Façade Engineer Katie Cheng from our Edinburgh Office.
A key highlight was a thought-provoking opening from Jim Glockling, who challenged whether fire engineering has yet fully delivered on innovation, cost certainty and faster delivery, prompting constructive debate throughout the day. As Jim mentioned, “we need to look further to just life safety and also start considering asset and property safety.”
Graduate presentations showcased emerging research across smoke control, computational modelling, intumescent protection, tunnel ventilation, battery storage separation and wildfire prediction.
James Lane also had the privilege of presenting the awards. A big thank you to the organisers and speakers, and congratulations to all presenters and winners on an excellent showcase of emerging talent and evidence-led practice in the sector.
